Influence of Glycerol on Methanol Fuel Characteristics and Engine Combustion Performance

Methanol derived from solar energy is a carbon-neutral alternative fuel for engines. The low viscosity of methanol one the problems that restrict its direct compression ignition application in Glycerol renewable resource biomass, and more than 1700 times methanol. In this study, glycerol was mixed with different volume fractions (1–50%), methanol-glycerol mixture similar to diesel prepared. Then, particle size, electrical conductivity, viscosity, swelling corrosion characteristics were measured. Finally, combustion emission tests carried out on heavy-duty multi-cylinder engine. results show can effectively adjust fuel. reach 3.19 mm2/s at 20 °C when blended 30% by volume, which meets requirements national standard addition alleviate polymer. test engine shows thermal efficiency 5% further improved pure methanol, both significantly higher blends reduce soot nitrogen oxide emissions while maintaining HC CO emissions. Therefore, proper blending optimize properties achieve lower pollutant ignition.
